অনলাইনভিত্তিক আর্থিক লেনদেনব্যবস্থা পেপ্যালের সেবা চালু করতে সোনালী ব্যাংককে অনুমোদন দিয়েছে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক। কেন্দ্রীয় ব্যাংকের ফরেন এক্সচেঞ্জ পলিসি ডিপার্টমেন্ট সোনালী ব্যাংককে এ অনুমোদন দিয়েছে। সোনালী ব্যাংক সূত্রে জানা গেছে, বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের অনুমোদন পাওয়ার পর পেপ্যালের সঙ্গে আনুষ্ঠানিক চুক্তির জন্য এখন প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হবে। আগামী মাসে এ বিষয়ে চুক্তি হতে পারে বলে জানিয়েছেন সোনালী ব্যাংকের সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্মকর্তারা। এরপর সাধারণ মানুষ সেবাটি ব্যবহার করতে পারবে। পেপ্যালের সাহায্যে বিশ্বের যেকোনো স্থান থেকে অনলাইনে অর্থ ও প্রবাসী আয় পাঠানো যায়। সেবাটি বাংলাদেশে চালু করতে তথ্য ও যোগাযোগপ্রযুক্তি এবং ই-কমার্স ব্যবসার সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যক্তিরা দীর্ঘদিন থেকেই দাবি জানিয়ে আসছিলেন। ব্যাংকিং চ্যানেলে ছোট অঙ্কের লেনদেন অসুবিধাজনক হওয়ায় পেপ্যালে লেনদেন তথ্যপ্রযুক্তির উদ্যোক্তাদের কাছে বেশ জনপ্রিয়। নীতিগত অনুমোদনসহ বেশ কয়েকটি কারণে সেবাটি চালুর অনুমোদন দিতে দেরি করে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক।</div>
